Sprain
A sprain is defined as a partial or complete tear in the ligaments surrounding a joint. Usually a strong twisting or pulling force can cause this tear on the ligaments as well as the surrounding tissues. Following injury, rapid swelling on the joint is observed. Muscle tenderness and a black-and-blue appearance result days after the injury. If not treated right away, the swelling can immobilize the joint and limit movements.

Ankle sprain
To treat it, control the swelling by following PRICE: pressure, rest, icing, compression and elevation of the affected area. Pain relievers are usually part of the treatment plan. Some herbal plants are also known to treat and cure sprains effectively. The table below shows the common herbal remedies and the procedures of preparation.
If severe pain, pallor, loss of pulse and movement on the injury is observed, a trip to the emergency room is the best recommendation.
